About the Migraine documentary Out of My Head
When writer/director Susanna Styron’s daughter, Emma, and was diagnosed with Migraine, Susanna was shocked to learn how many people live with the disease. She and Jacki Ochs, the producer of Out of My Head (who also has family members with Migraine), decided that there was a story to tell about a condition which deeply affects so many families yet remains largely misunderstood and stigmatized. Thus, the inspiration for the Migraine documentary Out of My Head was born.
It took nearly eight years to complete Out of My Head. The process was start and stop, related to fundraising and other professional obligations.
The film was funded by private foundations, organizations and individuals, including a successful Kickstarter campaign supported by over 850 people. Principal funders include Association of Migraine Disorders, The Mayday Fund, Migraine Research Foundation, and The Garrett and Mary Moran Family Foundation.

The Migraine Research Foundation (MRF) is a 501(c)(3) charity that raises money to award grants to researchers from around the world who are working to discover the causes, improve the treatments, and find a cure for Migraine.
MRF was established in 2006 to help the 1 billion people who suffer from Migraine, an enormous public health problem that burdens society, business, families, and, most importantly, individual sufferers. Their grants support cutting-edge projects that enable scientists to explore original research approaches and seed new ideas.
