It's easy to get caught up in our own concerns and lose sight of the bigger picture. Tell us about a time when you set aside your desires to accomplish something greater for the benefit of the whole Migraine and Headache community. If you haven't had the opportunity to do so yet, tell us what you think would be a great common goal for all of us.
This year, Migraine and Headache Awareness Month is all about reminding us that we are #NotAlone. We don't do all this just to complain about the misery of life with Migraine. We are #NotAlone and we don't have to suffer in silence. Even better, there is hope and healing in knowing that we are #NotAlone.
Did you know that about 10 percent of children under age 12 have Migraine? Prior to adolescence, Migraine affects boys and girls almost equally. Although rare, Cluster Headache can affect children and adolescents, too. Concussion injuries from school sports also put kids at risk for headache disorders.
Raising awareness about ALL headache disorders is the job of EVERYONE with ANY headache disorder. None of us are in this alone. We need to work TOGETHER to raise awareness for EVERYONE. EVERY headache disorder matters. What is one way that you can support awareness for a headache disorder you do not have?
Migraine makes us vulnerable. Fears of stigma cause us to hide our symptoms. Even when we're with those who understand, our hiding continues. If we're ever going to break down stigma, we must first become visible. That requires each of us to let down our guard, stop hiding, and let our vulnerability show. It's time we showed the world how strong we really are.
Cluster Headache is about as prevalent as muscular sclerosis and is characterized by periodic cycles with attacks occuring in frequency of every other day up to eight times per day. Cluster Headache is often referred to as "Suicide Headache" because the attacks are so severe. Patients with Cluster say the pain is worse than anything they've ever felt, including gunshot wounds, broken bones, and unmedicated childbirth.
